Korean painting colors on Korean traditional paper (Hangi), w16″ x h38″

This work is painted on Korean paper. It consists of lotus flowers and bird scenes, with pairs of birds in a folk-art idiom. The painted creatures symbolize a happy, faithful marriage, whereas the flower (lotus) represents the summer season. The original painting is in the queen’s quarters of a late 19th century Korean palace.
