In the stories my great-grandma told, the Sun was our grandfather. Each day he would go from house to house, village to village, and visit each and every family, spending time with them and sharing his love and warmth before leaving to share it with everyone else too. In my research I have found that warmth is intrinsically tied to vitality of the soul, body, and mind in the Coast Salish worldview, in that sense, we are much like the trees and plants who need light to survive.
